Youth Camp Leaders – Requirements & Resources
1. Letter to Youth Pastors / Groups Leader
When arriving for check-in, churches need to turn in extra copies of this year’s background checks on all adults (18 years & older). And an extra set of copies of all your servant leader’s training quiz results. (Make sure you have a set of both to keep for yourself.)
1 to 7 ratio …
There should be 1 male adult for every 7 male teenager and 1 female adult for every 7 female teenager. We recommend more if possible. For example, if you were able to bring 1 adult for every 4 or 5 teenagers that will give them some extra attention, prayer covering and relationship building opportunities.
All adults (and students 18 years & up) need to have gone through Sexual Abuse Awareness Training before deadline. Link above as #2. (Bring copies of everyone’s certificate to camp.)
All your servant leaders get to stay with your teenagers for all of camp, it’s a great way to bond and grow together. They get to hear the same messages together so they can review and discuss afterwards and pray with each other during ministry times. (After two of the main mornings sessions there are a wide variety of workshops for the teenagers and adults to choose from.)
For sleeping arrangements, since different churches have different guidelines it is up to the churches if they require an adult to be with the minors in the room or not. May have Jack-n-Jill style dorms again this year. You can decided who stays in which rooms.
For those helping at camp, there will be NO charge for the training if completed by a certain date, after that it’s $5. (Youth camp is 2 weeks before being Mon. June 9th and for Kid’s camp it’s 2 weeks before being Thurs. May 22nd.)
If you have others in your church you would like to have trained & receive a certificate of completion, it would just be $5 each. This should be required training for anyone you have working with children and youth at your church or ministry. It would actually be ideal if everyone (even if they don’t work in any student ministries) in your church was fully trained like this on what to look out for to protect kids & youth from potential or current abuse. Along with specifics of what to do and what not to do in different situations.
Remember to bring copies of every adult’s background check to camp. These can be processed by your church through whoever they prefer. Or you can order background checks through EGP. The current cost for basic is $16 each for Texas residents. Additional costs may apply. If from other states, you need to request those cost, as some may be alot more.
